Mama, I see you

To the women making magic✨ happen at work AND doing all of the things at home, I see you. According to Gallup, married mothers in the U.S. who work full time are more likely than their husbands to do laundry, clean house, grocery shop, plan family activities. This includes:

✅ The daycare dash
✅ Being responsible for preparing dinner
✅ Helping with homework/ shuttling school-age kids to activities.
I’m tired just thinking about it.🥹

A Fortune article sheds the light on the ways that women are expected to manage so much. And it also illuminates the ways that working mothers are expected to exceed expectations at both work and home. Even as women are increasingly breadwinners in their family, their share of the household work has not declined.

Likewise, a recent Economist article highlights the countries that have done the most to advance gender equity and create conditions for women to succeed at work. Sadly, the US trails far behind, and this makes working outside of the home, an even bigger hill to climb.

And research by Ball State University shows that the COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated conditions. Motherhood is not a job for the faint at heart.

Mamas, I see you and I know that it is intense. Working mamas – how are you juggling it all (or not at all)?
