A quote by Maya Angelou, on how to stand up for other women – Each time a women stands up for herself possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.

Stand Up for Women

Today, I’m celebrating the words of Maya Angelou, the National Medal of Arts, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Grammy award-winning activist, poet and legendary author. Maya Angelou is a St. Louis heroine and one of my favorite poets. This is not only because she encourages women to stand up for other women. But, also because iconic words have a way of piercing through the clutter to reveal a call to action.

Today, her words seem more apropos than ever. She said,

“Each time a women stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.”

Maya Angelou

Consider king the social justice struggles and gender-based bias taking place around the globe, Maya Angelou’s words are a clarion call to every world citizen to do our part in creating a more just and equitable world. From an intersectional worldview, I believe that women from every walk of life should thrive, economically, socially, emotionally and more.

So, I urge us all to lend our voices to ensure that women from all backgrounds win. Let us use our influence and positions of power to strive for freedom, justice, equity and opportunity for all. This is the transformational work that this quote calls us to pursue. Let us stand up for all women.
